The Vancouver Canucks have signed forward prospect Ty Mueller to a three-year, entry-level contract, the club announced Saturday morning.

Mueller, 21, collected 11 goals and 26 points in 40 games as a junior with the University of Nebraska-Omaha Mavericks in the 2023-24 season. He was nominated for the 2024 Hobey Baker Award back in January.

“Ty has continued to develop and take important steps forward since we drafted him,” Canucks general manager Patrik Allvin said in a media release on Saturday. “He is a smart two-way hockey player who we look forward to working with as he makes the transition from college hockey to the pro game.”

The Canucks originally selected Mueller in the fourth round (No. 105 overall) of the 2023 NHL Draft. Mueller had previously been passed over in the 2021 and 2022 drafts before being picked by the Canucks.

Nebraska-Omaha’s 2023-24 season came to an end on Thursday when they fell 3-2 to the University of Minnesota in the first round of the 2024 NCAA Division I men’s ice hockey tournament. Mueller elected to forego his fourth year of NCAA eligibility to sign with the Canucks on Saturday.

Before arriving at Nebraska-Omaha, Mueller spent parts of three seasons in the AJHL. He appeared in two games with the Okotoks Oilers as an affiliate player in 2018-19 before joining the Sherwood Park Crusaders on a full-time basis for two seasons, collecting 14 goals and 41 points in 65 games.

Mueller is a Cochrane, Alberta product who stands 5’11” tall and weighs in at 195 pounds. In his freshman year at Nebraska-Omaha in 2021-22, he collected eight goals and 13 points in 24 games.

It wasn’t until his sophomore year with the Mavericks that Mueller started to attract the attention of NHL clubs. He finished among the team scoring leaders in 2022-23 with 13 goals and 25 points in 34 games, but the Mavericks failed to qualify for the 2023 NCAA Tournament.

Mueller set new NCAA career highs in assists and points in his third and final year at Nebraska-Omaha and helped the Mavericks qualify for only their fifth-ever NCAA Tournament. He finished his Mavericks tenure with 31 goals and 64 points in 98 games over parts of three seasons.
