Vancouver Canucks Sign RFAs Elias Pettersson, Quinn Hughes
The Vancouver Canucks have made two massive deals official Sunday.
While previously reported days ago, the club announced a three-year deal for Elias Pettersson and a six-year deal for Quinn Hughes. Neither deal carries trade protection.
Pettersson will earn an AAV of $7.35-million over the course of the deal. The contract will see him earn $3-million salary and a $1-million signing bonus in year one before a $7.8-million salary in year two and a $10.25-million salary in year three, according to PuckPedia.
When the deal ends, Pettersson will be an RFA one year away from unrestricted free agency. He will have arbitration rights and an $8.82-million qualifying offer.
Hughes, meanwhile, will earn an AAV of $7.85-million. Here’s how his contract breaks down, per PuckPedia.
Year 1 – $4-million salary
Year 2 – $6.5-million salary
Year 3 – $8.6-million salary
Year 4 – $9.5-million salary
Year 5 – $10.25-million salary
Year 6 – $8.25-million salary
Pettersson, 22, was drafted fifth overall by the Canucks in the 2017 draft. He’s appeared in 165 games over the last three seasons scoring 65 goals and 153 points.
Hughes, 21, was selected seventh overall in the 2018 draft and has appeared in 129 games over the last three seasons. In those, he’s scored 11 goals and 97 points.
The contract buys one year of free agency.
