Canucks’ trade Mark Friedman to Predators for future considerations

Vancouver Canucks general manager Patrik Allvin announced Friday that Mark Friedman has been traded to the Nashville Predators in exchange for future considerations.

Friedman has primarily spent time this season in the American Hockey League with the Canucks’ affiliate, the Abbotsford Canucks, where he has tallied five points in 20 games. Friedman has appeared in five NHL games with Vancouver this season. He also missed time due to an injury after taking an awkward hit.

Back in June, the Canucks re-signed Friedman to a one-year, $775,000 contract extension which will make him a free agent at the end of this season. The 29-year-old tallied one assist in 23 games with Vancouver during the 2023-24 season

Friedman was dealt to Vancouver in October, 2023 in exchange for Jack Rathbone and winger Karel Plasek. Friedman spent 2.5 seasons with the Penguins organization and appeared in 54 games with the club, notching four goals and seven assists for 11 points.

The Toronto, Ontario native was originally selected No. 86 overall in the 2014 NHL Draft by the Philadelphia Flyers. Friedman spent three years with the Flyers organization and appeared in 11 games, recording one assist.

Throughout his time spent in the AHL, Friedman has collected 13 goals and 64 assists for 77 points in 238 games over parts of seven seasons with the Lehigh Valley Phantoms, Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, and Abbotsford.

Vancouver has been hard at work lately, completing their third trade in the last week, which saw J.T. Miller get dealt to New York and the Canucks acquiring Marcus Pettersson from the Pittsburgh Penguins.

Vancouver sits fourth in the Pacific Division with a 25-18-11 record. The Canucks are slated to face off against the Toronto Maple Leafs on Saturday before the 4 Nations Face-Off break.
