Lost in the chaos at the end of an exciting Hockey Night in Canada clash between longtime rivals, one of the league’s most experienced blueliners is facing supplemental discipline.

On Sunday, the NHL Department of Player Safety announced that Vancouver Canucks defenseman Tyler Myers will have a hearing for cross-checking Edmonton Oilers defender Evan Bouchard.

The Department of Player Safety says the date and time of the hearing have yet to be determined.

The incident started when the Oilers were frantically searching for the tying goal. Oilers captain Connor McDavid collided with Canucks forward Conor Garland, leading to the two having a wrestling match in the high slot. McDavid was fed up with Garland’s shenanigans, cross-checking the opposing centerman up high, leading to a donnybrook that brought fans back to the old Smythe Division battles in the ’80s.

Then, off to the side of the main scrum, Myers and Bouchard began jousting with their sticks, leading to Myers cross-checking the younger defenseman near the face as well.

Myers received a match penalty for the act, with the two combatants receiving minor penalties for slashing as well. In all, 52 penalty minutes were handed out due to the incident.

McDavid is also set to have a hearing for cross-checking Garland. Per Daily Faceoff’s Jeff Marek, the hearings will be over the phone, meaning any suspensions would be less than five games.

The Canucks hung on to win the game, 3-2.

In his over-15-year NHL career, including the last five-plus seasons with the Canucks, Myers has been suspended twice and fined two on two other occasions. In March 2012, while as a member of the Buffalo Sabres, Myers was suspended three games for boarding then-Montreal Canadiens forward Scott Gomez. In Jan. 2014, Myers received another three-game band of a high hit on Daniel Zubrus of the New Jersey Devils.

The only instance where Myers was handed supplemental discipline while as a member of the Canucks came in January of last season when he was fined $5,000 for elbowing Columbus Blue Jackets forward Sean Kuraly.

The Cancuks (20-15-10) are off until Tuesday when they host the Sabres, with a rematch against Edmonton this coming Thursday.
