Vegas Golden Knights announced Saturday that rookie goaltender Logan Thompson is considered week to week with a lower-body injury.

The injury occurred on Thursday’s 5-1 victory over the Minnesota Wild when Thompson appeared to have been injured in a non-contact play. He was unable to put any weight on his left leg and exited the ice immediately heading down to the locker room. Thompson logged 41:19 of ice time, stopping 23 of 24 shots he faced that night.

Jesse Granger of The Athletic also reported that Golden Knights head coach Bruce Cassidy expects Thompson to be back in the regular season, but “not anytime soon”. Adding that Cassidy is not sure what the rotation will look like between Adin Hill and Brossoit. It will depend on how Brossoit plays in his opportunities.

This season, Thompson has had a great run with the Golden Knights emerging as their starter. He’s posted a .914 save percentage (SV%) and 2.66 goals against average (GAA) through 36 games. He holds a record of 20-13-3 this season. The former Brandon Wheat Kings netminder is considered to be one of the top candidates for the Calder Trophy and Thompson even represented the Golden Knights at the 2023 NHL All-Star Game in Sunrise, Florida. He is one of nine goalies to reach the 20-win mark so far this season.

The 25-year-old has had a remarkable journey to the NHL. He starred with Kelly McCrimmon’s Brandon Wheat Kings in the WHL, winning the WHL championship in 2015-16. He has also had stints with Brock University (USports), Adirondack Thunder (ECHL), South Carolina Stingrays (ECHL) and the Henderson Silver Knights over the years. Thompson made his NHL debut in 2020-21 with the Golden Knights. That same season, he won the AHL’s Best Goaltender Award and was named to the AHL All-Rookie Team.

Additionally, the Golden Knights have recalled goaltender Laurent Brossoit from the Silver Knights in a corresponding move. Brossoit has posted a 2.72 GAA and .909 save percentage to go along with an 8-11-3 record with the Silver Knights this season. Brossoit played 24 games with the Golden Knights during the 2021-22 campaign posting a 10-9-3 record.
