Vegas Golden Knights select David Edstrom with No. 32 overall pick in 2023 NHL Draft
The Vegas Golden Knights have selected center David Edstrom with the No. 32 overall pick in the 2023 NHL Draft.
The Swede spent most of his season with Vastra Frolunda Jr. in the Sweden J20SuperElit, with 15 goals, 13 assists, and 28 points in 28 games. He also played 11 games in the Swedish Hockey League for Frolunda HC, where he had two goals, two assists, and four points.
Daily Faceoff’s own prospect expert Steven Ellis did not have Edstrom projected to go in the first round in his mock draft of the 2023 NHL Draft, Edstrom was selected No. 32. Ellis had this to say about him in his prospect rankings:
“Edstrom wasn’t previously ranked, so this is a huge jump, for sure. Getting to see him in person really opened my eyes to his skating and hockey IQ, and he’s a strong dual-threat as a shooter and a passer. Edstrom has a big frame at 6-foot-3 and uses it to his advantage, and he scored everywhere he played this year. Scouts really sold me on him. This guy has long-term NHL future written all over him.”
Edstrom is the first selection by Vegas in the first round of the 2023 draft, and is currently the only pick they are slated to make in the first. Barring any trades, the Golden Knights will make their next pick in the third round with the No. 77 overall selection.
The Golden Knights finished with a 51-22-9 record in the 2022-23 season, giving them 111 points which was good enough for first in the Division and 5th in the league. They defeated the Florida Panthers to win the franchise’s first Stanley Cup.
