Vegas Golden Knights sign depth players Gage Quinney, Mason Morelli and Mason Geertsen
The Vegas Golden Knights are bringing back a familiar face, signing forward Gage Quinney to a one-year deal worth $775,000.
Quinney has three NHL games to his credit, recording one assist with the Golden Knights back in 2019-20. He was one of Henderson’s better AHLers this past season, with the Las Vegas native scoring 25 goals and 64 points for his best season to date.
Quinney has 97 goals and 216 points in 294 games between Wilkes-Barre, Chicago and Henderson, proving to be a useful offensive forward. Quinney is expected to remain in the AHL, but gives the Golden Knights some extra scoring in a pinch.
Mason Morelli and Mason Geertsen also signed league-minimum at one-year deals. Morelli moves over from the Calder Cup-winning Hershey Bears, where he had 13 points in 20 playoff games and a career-high 41 points in 72 regular season games. Geertsen joins from the Utica Comets, where the physical defender had 136 penalty minutes in 61 games. He played 25 games with the Devils in 2021-22, registering zero points and 77 penalty minutes.
The team has minus-$2.212 million in projected cap space with 11 forwards, nine defensemen and two goaltenders signed for 2023-24. Robin Lehner and his $5 million cap hit is expected to go back on long-term injured reserve after missing out all of 2022-23.
