Golden Knights sign forward Reilly Smith to one-year contract extension

The Vegas Golden Knights have signed a one-year contract extension with veteran forward Reilly Smith, Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman reported Wednesday afternoon.
According to PuckPedia, Smith’s new contract with the Golden Knights is a one-year deal worth $2 million. It also includes a full no-trade clause. Smith had been slated to become an unrestricted free agent on July 1.
Smith, 34, collected 13 goals and 40 points in 79 games split between the Golden Knights and New York Rangers during the 2024-25 regular season. He added three goals and four points in 11 games with Vegas in the 2025 Stanley Cup Playoffs.
The Golden Knights reacquired Smith from the Rangers ahead of the 2025 trade deadline, sending prospect Brendan Brisson and a 2025 third-round pick in exchange for the 6’1″ winger. Smith previously played for the Golden Knights from 2017 to 2023.

A third-round pick of the Dallas Stars in 2009, Smith made his NHL debut with Dallas in the 2011-12 season after wrapping up a three-year college career at Miami University in Ohio. He spent parts of two seasons with the Stars before being traded to the Boston Bruins alongside Loui Eriksson as part of the return for Tyler Seguin.
After two seasons each with the Bruins and Florida Panthers, Smith arrived in Vegas by way of a trade at the 2017 Expansion Draft that was conditional upon the Golden Knights also selecting Jonathan Marchessault. That deal ended up being an absolute steal for Vegas, with Smith and Marchessault both playing key roles in the Golden Knights’ runaway success and ultimately winning the Stanley Cup together in 2023.
The Golden Knights traded Smith to the Pittsburgh Penguins as part of their post-Cup salary clearout. He lasted just one year in Pittsburgh, scoring exactly 40 points, before being flipped to the Rangers (and then back to Vegas).
Through 919 career NHL games over parts of 14 seasons with the Stars, Bruins, Panthers, Golden Knights, Penguins, and Rangers, Smith has collected 226 goals and 553 points. The Mimico, Ontario product has also tacked on 29 goals and 83 points in 117 playoff games.
Smith’s older brother, Brendan, is a pending UFA defenseman who spent the 2024-25 season with the Stars.
