In a game where everything was happening, another goaltender went down.

During Game 3 between the Montreal Canadiens and Washington Capitals, Capitals goaltender Logan Thompson left the game due to injury.

The incident happened in the third period on Friday night. Canadiens forward Juraj Slafkovsky finished off a nice feed from Cole Caufield to give the Habs a 5-3 lead. After Slafkovsky scored the insurance marker, Capitals forward Dylan Strome inadvertently ran into Thomspon, leaving the right-handed catching goaltender sprawled out on the ice.

Thompson had to be helped off the ice by teammates and a trainer. Charlie Lindgren came in to play the final six-plus minutes of the game.

The Canadiens went on to win the game, 6-3, cutting the Capitals’ series lead to 2-1.

Thompson was credited with 30 saves in the losing effort. Lindgren gave up a goal to Canadiens forward Alex Newhook in the final minutes of regulation.

The third game of the Metropolitan Division Semifinals was a wild game, to say the least. At the end of the second period, Capitals forward Tom Wilson got into a fight with Canadiens forward Josh Anderson that spilled into the Caps’ bench. Right before that, Habs netminder Samuel Montembault looked to have tweaked something in his left leg that led to him exiting the game. Jakub Dobes made his Stanley Cup Playoff debut as a result for Montreal.

Thompson has recently had injury problems this month. The 28-year-old suffered an upper-body injury against the Carolina Hurricanes on April 2, which kept him out for the remainder of the regular season. However, Thompson was able to make it back in time for the playoffs.

Thompson was exceptional in the first two games against Montreal, stopping 35 shots in a Game 1 overtime win before turning away 26 of the 27 shots he faced in Game 2.

Game 4 between the Capitals and Canadiens is set for Sunday evening. Puck drop is set for 6:30 p.m. ET.
