Washington Capitals prospect and London Knights defenseman Cam Allen has been charged with drunk driving, among other charges, after London-area officers said he fled

Allen, 20, is set to appear in court on March 6.

According to a release from the London Police Service, a citizen called 911 after a single-vehicle collision in London. Police found blood located near and inside the vehicle, with Allen being located nearby.

A passenger was treated at a hospital with nearby injuries.

The release listed the following charges: Impaired operation of a conveyance; Impaired operation exceed blood alcohol concentration; Failure to remain; Failure to report accident; and Novice driver- blood alcohol concentration above zero.

“In our discussions, we understand that Cam takes this matter very seriously and has assured us that he will fully cooperate with the court process,” a Knights statement said. “Cam understands the responsibility that comes with being a member of this organization and a representative of our community.”

The team’s release said disciplinary action will be determined by the OHL.

The Capitals drafted Allen 136th overall in 2023. He would go on to sign his entry-level contract on July 5, 2024 after his third season with the Ontario Hockey League’s Guelph Storm.

Allen has 17 points in 18 games with the Knights after a pre-trade deadline move with the Storm earlier this winter.

The Toronto, Ontario native is in his fourth season of major junior since getting selected third overall in the OHL Draft in 2021. Allen was named rookie of the year in 2021-22 after a 37-point campaign, the best of his career before 2024-25. This year, he’s up to 47 points and was on pace for 60 before the crash.

Allen has also represented Canada internationally on numerous occasions. He served as captain on the gold-medal-winning Hlinka Gretzky Cup team in 2022 and captained the team again at the U-18 World Championship the following spring, winning bronze. Allen was named to Canada’s selection camp roster for the 2025 World Junior Championship but wasn’t ultimately named to the team.
