The Washington Capitals announced on Sunday that the club has signed right winger Bogdan Trineyev to a one-year, two-way contract, bringing back the forward who has spent parts of four seasons with the organization.

Trineyev rejoined the Capitals’ AHL affiliate, the Hershey Bears, for two games at the end of the 2022-23 regular season, after a brief spell that saw him play two games in the 2022 Calder Cup Playoffs. After his brief North American cameo, he went on loan to his longtime KHL club, HC Dynamo Moscow, the club where he developed through his youth.

Since making his AHL regular season debut in 2022-23, he has increased his points total each year, scoring nine goals and 16 points in 63 regular season games in 2023-24, before adding four assists in the Bears’ run to their second consecutive Calder Cup. In 2024-25, he scored 14 goals – his most in an AHL or KHL season – and added eight assists for a career-high 22 points.

His new two-way deal will carry an average annual value of $775,000 at the NHL level and $100,000 in AHL, with the 23-year-old Russian forward still waiting to make his NHL debut with the Capitals.

A fourth-round pick of the Capitals at 117th in the 2020 NHL Draft, the six-foot-three forward ranked third on the Bears in plus-minus in 2024-25 with a +13 rating and sixth in goals, including a team-leading one shorthanded goal.

In 127 AHL games, he has 23 goals and 38 points, in addition to a +25 plus-minus rating. With a physically focused game suited to a bottom-six role, Trineyev also spent ample time on the penalty kill in Hershey through the last two seasons.

Outside of his professional career, Trineyev has represented Russia at the 2018 Hlinka Gretzky Cup, where he scored two goals and two assists in four games.

Hershey finished atop the Atlantic Division in 2024-25 with a record of 44-20-7 and 96 points, and now await their opponent in the Atlantic Division semifinals in their hopes for a third straight Calder Cup championship.
