With an empty spot behind the bench, the Dallas Stars have a big decision to make this offseason.

On Friday, the team announced that it has decided to fire head coach Pete DeBoer after three seasons on the job. Although his time with the team was brief, it was eventful, as the Stars advanced to the Western Conference Finals each year.

However, with some off-ice issues coming to light, particularly in regard to goaltender Jake Oettinger after the Stars were eliminated by the Edmonton Oilers during these Stanley Cup Playoffs, general manager Jim Nill decided it was time for a new voice.

The question now is, what do the Stars do? Since the beginning of the 2009-10 season, Dallas has had nine different head coaches, with only Lindy Ruff lasting longer than four years.

On Friday’s edition of Daily Faceoff LIVE, Frank Seravalli and Tyler Yaremchuk discuss what the Stars might be looking for in their next head coach.

Frank Seravalli: I think it’s way too early, but I think what the Stars have to their benefit is that there are a number of really qualified candidates that didn’t get jobs in this cycle. I wonder if you could also then entice a vet coach that’s won a lot. The first guy that I think of is Peter Laviolette. He’s a really good coach with a good team. Dallas is a good team.

Tyler YaremchuK: He’s the kind of guy who gets you over that hump.

Frank: And does it usually in the first year. He’s taken three different teams to cut finals. That’s the first guy I thought of. Second guy, Jay Woodcroft had a sparkling record in Edmonton. He didn’t get a job. A couple of teams went with first-time guys – Marco Sturm, Dan Muse. There were a couple guys that were recently out of the game, Lane Lambert going to Seattle. So, look, I think they’ve got a great opportunity in front of them.
