What the future looks like for Canucks forward Brock Boeser
The Vancouver Canucks have an important decision to make with forward Brock Boeser.
Boeser, 27, is a pending unrestricted free agent, and with the Canucks battling for a playoff spot in the Western Conference, could certainly be someone in play on the trade market before the trade deadline in early March.
Through 38 games this season, Boeser has recorded 15 goals, 28 points, and carries a $6.6 million cap hit. The Burnsville, MN native owns a 10-team no-trade clause, and has a bit of say in the matter should the Canucks entertain trade offers over the next few weeks. Boeser was originally a 2015 first-round pick of the franchise.
On Tuesday’s episode of Daily Faceoff LIVE, Tyler Yaremchuk and Frank Seravalli discussed Boeser’s future in Vancouver.
Yaremchuk: Another name that’s out there, and like Rick Tocchet is in the last year of his deal is Brock Boeser. I thought Patrik Allvin had some interest comments on Boeser as well. He started by saying ‘I wouldn’t say there’s urgency. I think (we’re) evaluating him. I have a great relationship with his agent, and when the time is right, we’ll make the decision….it’s got to work for both sides long term, and anything can happen here any day’.
So, again, he wouldn’t say there’s urgency, but then he ends it by saying ‘anything can happen here any day’, with Boeser.
Seravalli: Well, and you also heard Boeser say though, that he thinks that the drama that has existed around this team this year has really seeped into this team’s play. I would guess that would include himself. And, so the next thing I would ask, is does Brock Boeser still want to be part of that?
He went out on a limb two summers ago to say – ‘I want to be here’. But, how would you feel if after 517 games in a Vancouver Canucks’ uniform, and parts of nine seasons, to hear your GM say – ‘we’re still evaluating him’. If you don’t know now, then you don’t know. That also means you’re kind of not getting a commitment from them neither. I think there’s a lot to unpack there.
