What the Devils might do at the NHL Trade Deadline

The New Jersey Devils lost their second straight on Tuesday, dropping a 4-3 effort to the Dallas Stars. They are now 4-6-0 in their last 10 games and are suddenly fighting to hold on to a top-three spot in the Metropolitan Division, with the Columbus Blue Jackets and New York Rangers.
On Wednesday’s episode of Daily Faceoff LIVE, Frank Seravalli and Tyler Yaremchuk discuss the Devils’ recent losing streak and if there’s room for them to add before this Friday’s Trade Deadline.
Tyler Yaremchuk: The New Jersey Devils lose again and they are trending more on the bubble than we thought they were gonna be. They’re only at 72 points, and having played 63 games, that’s two or three more than the other teams in the mix in the Eastern Conference.
Things aren’t going well in New Jersey. No Jack Hughes for the Devils for the next little bit. You have them as a part of your “still shopping” article, what do you think the Devils are looking to do? Does the Hughes injury crank up their aggressiveness here going forward?
Frank Seravalli: No, I don’t think it does. If anything, it removes one more piece from them, at least in the moment, being a solid playoff team. If you look at where the Devils are in the standings, the Rangers, the Red Wings, the Blue Jackets are now within striking distance.
Look at Columbus and the Rangers: four points back, two games in hand. It’s not a pretty picture for the Devils, and I would argue that, for a team that wants to get in and solidify that spot, is this the year? With Florida loading up, Tampa still yet to make their move, the Capitals running away with the Metropolitan Division, I’d say there’s not a playoff series that I’m looking at right now that the Devils would be favoured in.
