What the Stars need the most ahead of 2025 NHL Trade Deadline
The Dallas Stars are having another excellent season, and are currently in third place in the Central Division with a 26-13-1 record. While they are on the verge of falling into a wild card spot, they still have a significant gap on the non-playoff teams in the Western Conference, and are more than poised to make the dance for a fourth-consecutive season.
But that doesn’t mean that they are without flaws. Once again, their defensive depth isn’t quite where it should be, especially on the right side.
Frank Seravalli talked about how, as the trade deadline approaches, a right-shot defenseman should be a top priority acquisition for the Stars.
Frank Seravalli: The Stars could have that Tyler Seguin LTIR room. I think the big thing about Jim Nill in his tenure is that, for the most part, he’s kept his powder dry. He hasn’t necessarily gone after the biggest fish because he hasn’t been willing to trade future assets, which is why this Dallas Stars team has been able to continue to roll in top prospects into their system.
They’ve been knocking on the door. They were right there. They entered the Western Conference Final as the favorite against the Edmonton Oilers last year, and probably should have been with the way that they were getting into it.
And look, I think it’s really clear when looking at this team’s roster, their line combinations, exactly where they could use that bump. If you’ve got Ilya Lyubushkin, Nils Lundkvist, and Matt Dumba as your three right shot guys, that leaves you a ton of room for improvement. And I think Dumba has really struggled at points in time this year. Lyubushkin plays a very limited, certain style.
If they could add someone that provides them with a little more juice, particularly at the other end, I think that would be really helpful for their team.
