The Winnipeg Jets got off to an incredibly hot start, but in the recent weeks and months, they’ve been in a bit of a tailspin and struggled to stay alive in the playoff race.

Suddenly, that puts a few things with their core into question. Is their window of contention finally closing? Who will leave if that is the case? Who will join if it isn’t? Frank Seravalli and Mike McKenna answered those questions on Daily Faceoff Live.

Frank Seravalli: I would have to think the way this season is trending, especially with the lack of production that you’ve seen of late from Mark Scheifele and Blake Wheeler, zero goals from them in a combined 30 games, which is certainly alarming, that if we were expecting some change last offseason and didn’t get it with both of those players entering the final years of their deal, there would have to be some shakeup in Winnipeg moving forward, no?

Mike McKenna: There just has to be. You can’t keep trotting out the same thing. Wheeler, Conner, Scheifele, they’re all under contract next year, Ehlers. It’s a scenario where Kevin Cheveldayoff is going to have to make some decisions. We know Rick Bowness will probably be back around, so I would expect something to shake up in the top six forwards amongst that team.

Frank Seravalli: Yeah, I don’t know. I would think Rick Bowness would be around. He also seems exasperated watching this season and the way that it’s gone forward, and he’s also had some health concerns to start the year too, so I’d be curious to see if that was a 100% given. But, to see this team change over from the Scheifele and Wheeler days to the Connor and Ehlers days is not too far off in the distant future.
