A new regime is on its way in Hollywood, with questions regarding the future of a former player turned executive.

On Monday, the Los Angeles Kings announced that the team and general manager Rob Blake have agreed to part ways. The team will begin a search for a new general manager immediately.

Blake was hired by the Kings in April 2017. During his tenure, the team made the playoffs five times, failing to get out of the first round, including losing to the Edmonton Oilers in each of the last four postseasons. He helped draft and develop a couple of players who are mainstays on the roster, including forward Quinton Byfield, by also acquiring pieces to help the team maintain a spot as one of the more competitive groups in the Pacific Division over the past few seasons.

However, it has been made clear the organization isn’t happy with the fact the Kings have been unable to make a deep playoff run under Blake’s guidance.

On Monday’s edition of Daily Faceoff LIVE, Frank Seravalli explains what the future holds for Rob Blake and where he might end up in the future.

Frank Seravalli: Eight seasons as GM. Led them through a rebuild after their Stanley Cup years. Zero playoff wins. Four consecutive losses to the Edmonton Oilers in the first round. I think the next question is – what’s next? I think this was a really interesting scenario because Rob Blake had a contract extension. He didn’t have a contract after this year and had an extension on the table. I think a lot of people were saying, “Why didn’t he sign it?” Well, interestingly enough, I was told that he came in today and was told that [the Kings] wanted to go in a different direction. So, change is coming for the Kings. I would imagine that change will also be coming at the head coaching position, but that will probably include the next general manager to make that decision.
