What’s wrong with the Los Angeles Kings?
After such a fantastic start to the 2023-24 regular season, the Los Angeles Kings are in the midst of an eight-game losing streak, with their last win coming Dec. 27 over the San Jose Sharks.
Forward and team captain Anze Kopitar leads the team with 39 points (14 goals and 25 assists), with forwards Adrian Kempe and Kevin Fiala tied for second with 37 points.
The Kings hope to get back to their winning ways on Monday when they face the Carolina Hurricanes at 3 p.m. EST/12 p.m. PST. On Monday’s episode of Daily Faceoff LIVE, Tyler Yaremchuk and Colby Cohen discuss the Kings’ losing streak and what’s the main cause of it.
Tyler Yaremchuk: Let’s start with the L.A. Kings, because this is a Kings team that hasn’t won a game yet in the calendar year of 2024. They’re being saved because they’ve taken a bunch of games to overtime, but there’s concern with this Kings team. The goaltending was a gamble with Cam Talbot and Phoenix Copley, but with no Copley, you need Talbot to be a 60-game workhorse for you.
Guys on this team that were contributing early on have really cooled off, and I don’t know if you can just magically get that back at any pont.
Colby Cohen: I think the goaltending is where I would point my biggest concern to because I don’t think Talbot can give you 60 games and win most of them. The reason I’m not giving up on L.A. is because Anze Kopitar, Phillip Danault, Pierre-Luc Dubois and Blake Lizotte. That’s how you’re playing with down the middle, and that’s why I’m not giving up on them. Between those guys and someone like Drew Doughty on the back end, you have a lineup that can do damage.
