Which Canadian team will be the most active this summer?

The Toronto Maple Leafs could have plenty of cap space to retool their roster, the Ottawa Senators are looking to take the next step, and the Vancouver Canucks have never sat still since Jim Rutherford joined the organization.
Nearly every Canadian team, including the President’s Trophy-winning Winnipeg Jets, could be in for a big offseason as the NHL Draft weekend and free agency approach, but which teams could be the most involved over the next few months?
On Tuesday’s episode of Daily Faceoff Live, Tyler Yaremchuk and Frank Seravalli dove into which Canadian general managers could be the busiest as they look to improve their fortunes ahead of the 2025-26 season.
Yaremchuk: We’ve got an Ask DFO in here about the Maple Leafs potentially having a lot of money to spend if both Mitch Marner and John Tavares were to leave.
Which Canadian team’s GM is going to have the most expensive phone bill this month? Who do you think is going to be the most active of the bunch?
Seravalli: Brad Treliving, because he’s usually in on everything anyway. But also, if there is no Tavares, and if there is no Marner, you’re going to have tons of space, and you’re going to have lots of reasons to be aggressive.
You’ve got some assets at the same time that you could move if you really wanted to. So I think the Leafs. I don’t think the Senators are going to be big spenders, and I think the Montreal Canadiens want to be aggressive on the trade front, not in free agency.
I think the Canucks have a ton of work to do, but seem to be spinning their wheels because they don’t have a lot of assets to move to get them. The Jets are typically not a team that signs big free agents.
The Calgary Flames are more trading for players within their age scheme and are likely moving out Rasmus Andersson. The Oilers are looking at goaltending and then potentially some younger, speedy forward, so it’s probably still the Leafs.
