Will any participant in the 2025 Stanley Cup Playoffs have a short-lived spring and see their postseason run end in four games?

On Tuesday’s episode of Daily Faceoff LIVE, Tyler Yaremchuk and Frank Seravalli highlighted the New Jersey Devils, who on Sunday fell 4-1 in Game 1 against the Metropolitan Division rival Carolina Hurricanes. While the Devils will look to stave off their second-straight loss Tuesday, the club will need to do so without defensemen Luke Hughes and Brenden Dillon, both of whom have been ruled out due to undisclosed ailments, joining an extensive injury list in New Jersey that already counts forward Cody Glass, veteran rearguard Jonas Siegenthaler, plus star center Jack Hughes.

Tyler Yaremchuk: After a few games in some of the series already played, do you see any more sweeps than you originally predicted? [Will the Blues] have a quick series or will they fight back against Winnipeg?

Frank Seravalli: No, I think they fight back. I have a hard time believing that it’s going to be a sweep. I think the one sweep alert that exists is Carolina and New Jersey. We saw this morning that Luke Hughes is out. Brenden Dillon is out. That puts the Devils in, what was already an uncomfortable position, more of a tougher spot.

Tyler Yaremchuk: The Jets and Blues game was the one yesterday that – pardon the pun – flew under the radar a little bit, but Winnipeg goes up 2-0 on the back of a strong performance from Connor Hellebuyck.

To note, following Game 2 on Tuesday in Carolina, the Devils will return home with Games 3 and 4 set for Friday and Sunday in New Jersey. The Hurricanes and Devils split their four-game regular-season series, taking two wins apiece.
