A spending spree in free agency last summer had many pundits pegging the Nashville Predators as a contender in the 2024-25 season.

But a slow start – just six wins in their first 20 games – ultimately sunk the Predators, who now through 73 appearances stand 27-38-8 and will not qualify for the Stanley Cup Playoffs for the second time in the past three seasons.

On Monday’s episode of Daily Faceoff LIVE, Frank Seravalli and Carter Hutton discussed which veteran player Predators general manager Barry Trotz should consider dealing this offseason in order to course correct his club.

Frank Seravalli: Jonathan Marchessault talked recently about the mental toll that’s been on him. I’m sure Steven Stamkos is feeling it, and even guys who have been there for a while like Filip Forsberg and Roman Josi. You mentioned Juuse Saros. These guys are all locked up to crazy long-term deals. Brady Skjei [is another]. This is a really old team for a team that has so much term locked in. If you were to pick one of those players to try to pluck them off and grab as much value as possible, which one would it be?

Carter Hutton: I think, for me, it would have to be Stamkos or Marchessault. I feel like they kind of check the same box for me, whereas Forsberg brings more to the table. Josi is a player who I just don’t think you can ever move off of. The minutes he can eat up and the way he can play, he seems ageless. Getting to play with Josi and getting to know him, his demeanor and the way that he carries himself, it’s such an important thing around that room. With Saros, Yaroslav Askarov is gone now. You made that decision, so I feel like Saros is the guy who you have to go with. I think Marchessault or Stamkos would be the tricky one to move out, but that being said, I think the value is pennies on the dollar after this season.
