As we start to really dive into 2025, we are slowly closing in on the NHL Trade Deadline.

Teams that are establishing themselves as Stanley Cup contenders are expected to make moves to bolster their lineups even more, while teams simply trying to clinch a spot in the postseason might look at adding a piece or two to make that come to fruition.

Taking a look at the Western Conference, the Vegas Golden Knights and Winnipeg Jets are leading the pack, with teams like the Minnesota Wild, Los Angeles Kings and Edmonton Oilers trying to keep up.

There are also some fringe playoff teams, such as the Vancouver Canucks and Calgary Flames, that would lead some to believe that they will be active prior to March 7.

On Tuesday’s edition of Daily Faceoff LIVE, Frank Seravalli and Tyler Yaremchuk discuss which teams out of the West will be the most aggressive in the lead-up to the deadline.

Frank Seravalli: I think logic would dictate that it would have to be the Oilers. Second pair, right-shot defenseman. Is that not the target?

Tyler Yaremchuk: Their need is the most clear-cut. That is number one. Any other shopping the Oilers do is pretty far down the list. I think what would be interesting is a team like [the Dallas Stars] and that $9 million with Tyler Seguin. If Dallas wanted to go and make a big splash, they have the cap space…If they wanted to do something crazy, they have the cap space, they have the prospect pool, they have a first-round pick in each of the next three drafts as well.

Edmonton can maybe afford to do one swing, and maybe it’s in the rental market or the veteran market. If Dallas wanted to do something crazy that really changes the way you look at them, they’re the one team in this conversation that can really do it.
