Kyle Dubas and the Pittsburgh Penguins announced officially that they have brought former San Jose Sharks head coach David Quinn to their coaching staff.

Today on Daily Faceoff Live, Tyler Yaremchuk and Colby Cohen talk about why Quinn is a perfect hire for Steel City.

Tyler Yaremchuk: A number of coaching additions to coaching staffs this week and one in particular is David Quinn going from San Jose to Pittsburgh. Is there one that stands out as a good hire?

Colby Cohen: You know, I think Quinn in Pittsburgh is a very good hire. The reason I say that is I have played for Quinn at various levels from national teams, to my first games in the American Hockey League (AHL). I know what he can do for a defenseman, he and Erik Karlsson have a fantastic relationship. He had one of the best years of his career under Quinn and I think that’s a big reason why the Penguins wanted him. Mike Sullivan and Quinn were teammates, you go way back to their time with Boston University, they’re friends and I think there will be a lot of symmetry.

Colby Cohen Again, I like it when head coaches end up coming to new teams as assistant coaches, Quinn is great with video, and I think the Penguins are getting ready to usher in some youth on their backend, it won’t be Letang and Karlsson forever and I think Quinn is perfect to help get that defense core in tact and I think it will be a big help for the goaltending which has been hit or miss at times.
