Wild’s Ryan Hartman given match penalty for intent to injure

Minnesota Wild forward Ryan Hartman was given a match penalty for intent to injure Ottawa Senators forward Tim Stutzle following a face-off draw.
The incident occurred when Hartman pushed Stutzle’s head into the ice. The whistle was blown immediately and Hartman was ejected from the game.
The Department of Safety wil undergo a review of the situation given the nature of the ejection. Hartman has been suspended four times in his 11 year NHL career so far. He was last suspended in April, 2024.

Hartman finished the game with nine penalty minutes, three shots on goal and one hit in 8:25 minutes of ice time.
The 30-year-old has racked up seven goals and 10 assists for 17 points in 47 games this season with Minnesota.
Hartman has a history of fines and suspensions in the NHL, he was most suspended during the 2023-24 campaign for two games for slew-footing Detroit Red Wings forward Alex DeBrincat.
Most notably in 2022 following a fight with Edmonton Oilers forward Evander Kane, Hartman threw the middle finger up as a taunt, a gesture that was immediately knocked down by the official. Hartman described the incident as “well worth it.”
Hartman signed a three-year, $12 million contract extension with the Wild last season, the contract has an average annual value (AAV) of $4,000,000.
The Hilton Head Island, South Carolina native was initially selected in the first round, No. 30 overall by the Chicago Blackhawks in the 2013 NHL Draft. Hartman spent his draft year in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) with the now-defunct, Plymouth Whalers, where he notched 60 points in 56 games and was named to the CHL Top Prospects Game. Hartman captured a gold medal at the World Juniors with the United States that same season.
