Will Calgary Flames’ Jonathan Huberdeau bounce back in 2024?

One of the most talented players on the Calgary Flames roster has not played up to expectations.

However, there is still time for Jonathan Huberdeau for turn things around this season.

Through 37 games, the former Saint John’s Sea Dog has five goals and 12 assists. Those numbers are not bad for an average player, but for a guy who put 115 points just two years ago, 17 points at the turn of the New Year is not ideal.

To make matters worse for the Flames, Huberdeau is in the first of an eight-year contract worth $10.5 million a season.

Yet, there might be a light at the end of the tunnel. Huberdeau has scored a goal and an assist in Calgary’s last two games, a welcomed change after being held off the scoresheet in 12 consecutive games. His goal last Tuesday night against the Minnesota Wild was his first since Nov. 20.

Nevertheless, the Flames need their big guns to step up, especially since they are fighting for a playoff spot in a Western Conference Wild Card race that is jammed as we move further into January.

On Thursday’s edition of Daily Faceoff LIVE, Frank Servailli and Tyler Yaremchuk discussed their concerns with Huberdeau’s struggles this season.

Frank Seravalli: I was really sold on Jonathan Huberdeau heading into the season…it feels like it’s off the rails. I know being so early in his contract that you feel like this is something you’re going to have to battle through and going to have to find a long-term solution. The longer this goes on, I’m really wondering if the Flames are going to have to take some drastic measure to try and do something different.
