Will NHL teams be active on the trade front during 4 Nations Face-Off?
While the NHL will soon break for the inaugural 4 Nations Face-Off to be held February 12-20 in Boston and Montreal, don’t assume that general managers will switch their phones to silent during the pause.
On Friday’s episode of Daily Faceoff LIVE, Tyler Yaremchuk and Frank Seravalli discussed whether teams have been advised to postpone roster moves until after the break of if it will be business as usual.
Tyler Yaremchuk: For trades during the 4 Nations break, there is no official roster freeze, but do you think there is a little nudge from the league being like, ‘Hey, don’t take attention away from what we’re doing here’?
Frank Seravalli: No. I think, just from a human level, if there is a trade that could be pulled off to allow that player the break – obviously not impacting vacation plans or anything like that – but if you could get into town a few days early and sort out your housing situation and your family situation, or maybe even bring your family with you, it would be a huge leg up. I would say that if something were to go down – and look, we had trades during All-Star Weekend last year, multiple of them, in fact – any buzz about the league during this period of time when there are no games, not just for 4 Nations, I would think is a really good thing for hockey.
On Monday, Seravalli released his latest Trade Targets board, which is headlined by New York Islanders pending unrestricted free agent Brock Nelson, and also includes new additions in Colorado Avalanche center Casey Mittelstadt as well as Chicago Blackhawks defenseman Seth Jones. To date, 11 players on the board have been shipped elsewhere, including former headliner J.T. Miller who moved from the Vancouver Canucks to the New York Rangers last Friday. The 2025 NHL trade deadline is set for March 7.
