The Vegas Golden Knights are reeling after a second round loss to the Edmonton Oilers in the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

For the second year in a row after winning the Stanley Cup in 2023, the Golden Knights bowed out of the postseason earlier than they hoped or expected.

With limited salary cap flexibility and uncertainty surrounding the health of veteran star defenseman Alex Pietrangelo, a fascinating offseason is ahead for general manager Kelly McCrimmon.

On Thursday’s episode of Daily Faceoff LIVE, host Tyler Yaremchuk and Insider and President of Hockey Content Frank Seravalli discussed what Vegas can and will do to stay in contention and add key pieces to their roster over the summer.

Tyler Yaremchuk: I keep hearing all this stuff that Vegas wants to make a big add, and they always do, right? They always find a way, and I’m looking at their cap situation, Frank, and I just can’t see a path unless you’re going to trade a really important piece. I’m gonna say the Golden Knights, despite their efforts, will go the summer without a major addition. Give me a rating.

Frank Seravalli: Two. I think the Golden Knights know that they need to be much better. I think they see this core aging rapidly. I think they understand the position that they’re in defensively. A couple years ago, you’re like, “Man, this team has three really good defensemen on expensive but somewhat reasonable deals.” Now all of a sudden, you look at this team and you go, “oof.” What’s up with Alex Pietrangelo moving forward? Noah Hanifin is a nice-to-have, but is an accessory piece as a number three. Shea Theodore needed to be a lot better in the playoffs, and you look at this group up front, which has always been top heavy. I think they go out and try to get one of these guys. I think they were very, very close to having a deal done to get Mitch Marner at the trade deadline. It didn’t happen, but I think that they’re the team to watch when it comes to Marner and this summer.
