The Winnipeg Jets will be without star defenseman Josh Morrissey for the rest of Sunday’s Game 7 against the St. Louis Blues, as he has yet to return to the game due to an undisclosed injury.

Morrissey sustained the injury in the first period of Game 7 when he took a hit from Oskar Sundqvist behind the net. The defenseman immediately appeared to be in discomfort and made his way to the bench.

Morrissey went to the dressing room shortly after, and did not return to the game for the second period. While there has yet to be confirmation that he’s out of the game, the fact that he has yet to return would indicate that he’s done for the night.

Morrissey leaves the game with just one hit in 2:09 of ice time, with the Jets down 2-0 at the time of his departure.

With Morrissey out of the lineup, his partner on the top pair, Dylan DeMelo, has seen a steady rotation of ice time with the other four defensemen in Haydn Fleury, Luke Schenn, Dylan Samberg and Neal Pionk.

Morrissey finishes this first round series against the Blues with a good but not great performance, with just 3 assists in 7 games. This comes after another great regular season, where he had 14 goals and 48 assists for 62 points in 80 games.

Morrissey is in the fifth year of an eight-year contract with a $6.25 million cap hit.

Morrissey was the 13th overall selection for the Jets in the 2013 NHL Draft out of the WHL. He stayed in the WHL for two more seasons after being drafted, winning a WHL Championship with the Kelowna Rockets in 2015.

Morrissey spent most of the following season in the AHL with the Manitoba Moose, but he did make his NHL debut that season, playing in just one game. He cemented himself as an NHL regular the following season, and has since spent parts of 10 seasons with the team.
