The Winnipeg Jets added some extra goaltending depth on Wednesday, signing Evan Cormier to a one-year, two-way deal.
Cormier has spent the entire season in the ECHL, posting a 6-13-3 record with a .905 save percentage with Kalamazoo. Cormier was also previously on a tryout deal with the AHL’s Manitoba Moose, but never got into action.
The 25-year-old was originally drafted by the New Jersey Devils in the fourth round in 2016, eventually making his pro debut with the Binghamton Devils in 2018-19. Cormier has a career AHL record of 18-24-8 with two shutouts and a .895 save percentage in 51 games over five seasons. Cormier’s best AHL run came last year when he had an 8-3-4 run with a shutout and a .905 save percentage in 14 games with the Moose.
The Moose currently have Arvid Holm and Oskari Salminen manning the pipes. Both are big goaltenders, with Holm even earning a call-up last month. Manitoba sits third in the Central Division with a 29-16-6 record, four points behind the first-place Texas Stars.
