With so much roster protection, the Kraken are in a tough spot ahead of NHL Trade Deadline

Despite being among the bottom feeders of the Western Conference standings, and a notion to become sellers before the NHL’s trade deadline March 7, the Seattle Kraken are going to have a tough time selling off some of their assets.
13 players on the Kraken roster have some form of trade protection on their contracts, and while GM Ron Francis has used this in order to help get the players signed, now, when the team could be looking to sell, it’s certainly a roadblock for the franchise.
Seattle enters Wednesday’s action with a record of 22-27-3 on the year, and are 5-5-0 in their last 10 games. Forward Jared McCann leads the team in scoring, collecting 14 goals and 39 points, in 52 games.
On the latest episode of Daily Faceoff LIVE, Tyler Yaremchuk was joined by Colby Cohen, and the two discussed what to expect out of the Kraken ahead of the NHL’s trade deadline.
Yaremchuk: I think Seattle has a very easy decision. They need to get a superstar at some point, and the only way to do that is to stink for a couple of years. Quit adding mediocre players to your lineup.
Cohen: I actually would love to focus on Seattle for a second here. What struck me as, a little bit of a head-shaking moment, is that everyone of their players who either makes money and has term, either has a modified no-move, or no-trade.
I mean, they have been given out on this Seattle roster like tick-tacks. Is that what you need to do to get players to Seattle? Maybe. Maybe that’s the problem. 11 players who are every night players for this team, have either no-moves, no-trades, or modified protection.
It’s difficult to move guys with money and term, when they have a say in it. Right, because the teams that generally take those contracts on, are teams that you might not want to go play for. So, I don’t know what they’re doing in Seattle.
