You don’t want to face the Blues in the playoffs

While teams are securing spots in the Stanley Cup Playoffs, one team that’s closing in on a postseason position is one of the hottest teams in the NHL.
The St. Louis Blues have been on an absolute tear as of late, going from a meddling team to seemingly a Wild Card lock, thanks to winning 12 games in a row. They’re winning ways came to an end on Monday night when they lost to the Western Conference-leading Winnipeg Jets, but the Blues’ hot streak has made believers out of many doubters since the trade deadline.
Some are comparing this Blues team to the team that made an incredible run in 2019, winning the franchise’s Stanley Cup. While that might be a stretch, there is some similarities between St. Louis this year and the Nashville Predators team that had a second-half surge last season to squeak into the playoffs, ultimately getting ousted by the Vancouver Canucks.
On Tuesday’s edition of Daily Faceoff LIVE, Colby Cohen explains to Tyler Yaremchuk why the Blues are a legitimate threat if they can secure of a spot in the postseason.
Colby Cohen: I’m not looking at the Blues as the 2019 blues that I expect, or I guess nobody really expected it, in 2019 to see them run the table in the playoffs. I think Jordan Binnington is a huge reason why. When he gets into this mode, that he basically has carried through from his win at the 4 Nations, and he gets to this point where he understands these pressure pack situations, he understands how to win in the playoffs.
Here’s the other reason I like St. Louis more. I love the way they’re built down the middle. Robert Thomas, Braden Schenn, Oskar Sundquist, Radek Faksa. To me, I feel good about your four centers right there. They’ve been without Colton Parayko a good chunk of this successful part of their season. They’ll get him back, hopefully at some point. … I do believe in St. Louis, more than I believed in Nashville, to actually go and potentially win a win a round in the playoffs.
