Paul Maurice resigns as head coach of Winnipeg Jets
In a move that seemingly comes without warning, the Winnipeg Jets announced on Friday morning that Paul Maurice has resigned from his role as head coach, effective immediately.
Dave Lowry will take over as interim head coach. He’s served as an assistant coach on Maurice’s staff since the start of the 2020-21 season.
No reason has been given for Maurice’s resignation.
Maurice had been the Jets head coach since the 2013-14 season, having compiled a record of 302-213-57 (.578) during this stretch. He was the NHL’s second longest tenured coach with one team, trailing only Jon Cooper of the Tampa Bay Lightning.
The Jets are next scheduled to be in action on Friday night when they host the Washington Capitals.
