Byron had 98 goals, 208 points, 139 PIMs, and a +31 plus/minus through 12 NHL seasons and 521 games played and officially retired from the NHL on Tuesday. The 34-year-old left-winger last played for Montreal in 2021-22 and had four goals, seven points, and only 33 SOG through 27 games before missing the majority of the year due to reoccurring hip issues.
33-year-old veteran Left Winger Paul Byron will be placed on the LTI due to a hip injury steaming from last season. Byron has struggled to stay healthy the last few years playing only 102 games in the last three NHL seasons. He collected seven points in 27 games in 2021-22 as he found himself out of the lineup more often than in. By placing the 12-year veteran on the LTI, the Canadiens free up $900,000 in cap space.
Byron suffered a lower-body injury vs. the Wild on Tuesday and will miss Thursday's game vs. the Flyers. Jake Evans (illness) will be back in the Canadiens lineup to replace Bryon.
Byron missed the last four games with an upper-body injury that he suffered vs. the Sabres on February 23rd. Byron has been limited to just nine games this season, scoring one goal with one assist. He will replace Michael Pezzetta in the lineup.
Byron was nearing his season debut but that will have to wait now that he has been added to COVID-19 protocol.
Byron was hit by a Shea Weber shot late in Thursday's win in Vancouver. With Byron unavailable for Friday's practice, Michael Frolik skated in his spot on the fourth line.
Byron has been out since mid-November but it looks like he could get back into the lineup at some point this week. He will travel to Boston and Pittsburgh and could make his return either Tuesday or Thursday.
Byron appeared to be close to returning to the lineup when he was a full participant in Friday's practice, but he'll remain in Montreal while the team travels to Western Canada next week. Ryan Poehling will remain in Montreal's lineup with Byron out.
Byron suffered a knee injury in Washington on Friday and it will require surgery on Tuesday. Bryon will miss several weeks and will likely be moved to IR so Montreal can call-up reinforcements from Laval (AHL). Someone like Ryan Poehling is a logical replacement for Byron.
Byron will come out of the lineup due to a lower-body injury that he suffered last night in Washington. With Byron out, Jesperi Kotkaniemi will be making his return to the lineup.
Byron was involved in a scary situation in which he had to be helped off of the ice after a fight with MacKenzie Weegar on March 26th. Byron will draw back into the lineup on the Canadiens fourth line with Nate Thompson and Jesperi Kotkaniemi.
