On Tuesday Stalock will serve as Antti Niemi’s backup for the second straight game. “He still needs a little more practice work,” coach Todd McLellan said. “He’s capable of going in to back up, but we want him to have a chance to be successful. McLellan is holding out hope that Stalock will be completely ready to go by Thursday, but if not Thursday certainly by the weekend.

Stalock is 2-2-1 with a 2.38 goals-against average and a .925 save percentage in five games. He was slated to start Tuesday against the Florida Panthers, but Antti Niemi played instead and made 26 saves in a 4-1 loss. Grosenick, a 6-foot-1, 185-pound native of Brookfield, Wis., is 7-2-1 with a 2.73 GAA and .908 save percentage in 10 games for Worcester. He leads the AHL in wins and ranks second in minutes played (616). He signed a free-agent contract with the Sharks in April 2013.

Stalock allowed four goals on 29 shots in a the Sharks 4-0 loss to the Rangers last Sunday. Antti Niemi gave up nine goals in his last two starts, so Stalock could earn himself a few more starts next week with a strong outing vs. the Sabres this afternoon… and that should not be too hard.

Antti Niemi is coming off of a rough night where he allowed five goals, so it is no surprise to see the Sharks go to Stalock tonight. He will take on the Islanders who are averaging a robust 5.00 goals per game in their first three games.
After Antti Niemi allowed five goals on 34 shots in the Sharks shootout win over the Capitals on Tuesday, the Sharks will likely go back to Stalock tonight on Long Island. Stalock is coming off of a 30-save shutout in his season debut last Saturday. Another great start could go a long way in earning Stalock extra playing time.

Niemi is coming off of a shutout on opening night vs. Los Angeles, but it looks like the Sharks want to get Stalock some work early on.
