Andreas Johnsson News
Johnson has been out since December 4th but will travel to Florida for Sunday's game. This doesn't necessarily mean that he will play against the Panthers, but could join the team for practice at the very least.
Johnsson was hurt while blocking a shot against the Avalanche and will miss at least 10 games/24 days with a leg injury. Moving Johnsson to LTIR opens up a roster spot and gives the Maple Leafs some cap flexibility that they didn't have before. They used that to call-up Nic Petan, Pontus Aberg and Martin Marincin from the Marlies (AHL).
Johnson suffered a leg injury while blocking a shot in Saturday’s game against the Bruins. Johnsson was unavailable for Sunday’s practice but said he’ll be in the lineup on Monday. Johnsson has had a solid start to the season, scoring two goals with three assists (five points) in nine games while skating on a line with Auston Matthews. With 21 shots on goals, Johnsson is shooting 9.5 percent, suggesting that there are more goals on the horizon.
The Maple Leafs have found a seventh-round gem in Johnsson. The 24-year-old had 20 goals and 23 assists (43 points) in 73 games during his first full NHL season. Johnsson also added one goal and three assists in seven playoff games and should be locked into a top-6 role on a line with Auston Matthews in 2020.
Johnsson missed Saturday’s game in Arizona after suffering an injury on a Brayden McNabb hit last Thursday. Johnsson is expected to replace Tyler Ennis in the lineup and skate on the third line. Johnsson has registered five goals and four assists (nine points) in his last six games.
Johnson was forced to leave Thursday’s game in Vegas, after scoring a goal in just 5:32 TOI, due to a leg injury and it will keep him out of Saturday’s game in Arizona. Connor Brown will replace him on the Maple Leafs’ third line and Tyler Ennis will replace him in the lineup.
Johnsson has not picked up a point while averaging just 8:26 TOI/GM in the first three games of the season. Tonight he will be replaced by Frederik Gauthier as the Maple Leafs try to add some size to their lineup vs. the Stars.
Johnsson, 23, was a seventh round pick in 2013 and could make his NHL debut on Wednesday. Johnsson has ripped up the AHL this season, leading the Marlies with 54 points (26G / 28A) in 54 games this season.
