Andrej Sekera News

Sekera (upper-body) will not play on Thursday.

After a brutal collision with the end-boards on Tuesday, it was a great sign that Sekera was able to skate this morning. He took line rushes with Justin Faulk, which suggested he might play tonight, but the Hurricanes ultimately decided to keep him out tonight and let him rest before Tuesday's game.

Sekera (upper-body) is on the ice for the Hurricanes' morning skate.

Sekera is on the ice this morning and is actually paired with Justin Faulk which suggests he might be available tonight. It would be pretty remarkable if Sekera plays considering how hard he crashed into the boards on Tuesday. Expect an update after the skate.

Sekera (upper-body) is "really sore"; listed as day-to-day.

After a rough collision with the boards last night, Sekera did not skate today, but he has not been ruled out for Thursday's game. He is likely dealing with some whiplash and depending on how he feels tomorrow will go a long way in deciding whether or not he plays vs. the Rangers.

Sekera (upper-body) left Tuesday's game after crashing into the boards and did not return.

The Hurricanes said that the X-rays came back negative after Sekera crashed into the boards in the first period. That is positive news that Sekera may not miss an extended period of time with what looked to be a dangerous play. The Hurricanes are already missing their top-3 forwards, they can't afford to lose Sekera for a long time. Expect a more detailed update on Wednesday or Thursday.

Sekera (upper-body) will take part in warmups and is probable to return to the lineup tonight.

Sekera has missed the last two games and his return will be a welcomed sight for Hurricanes fans. Sekera has been great offensively (5G / 8A) and defensively for Carolina this season. If he plays, he will return to the top pair with Justin Faulk and play 20-plus minutes as usual. Mike Komisarek is expected to stay in the lineup with Ryan Murphy coming out.

Defenseman Andrej Sekera was not at practice Saturday and Canes coach Kirk Muller said he is very doubtful for Sunday's game against the Vancouver Canucks.

Sekera has an undisclosed upper-body injury and did not play Friday in the Canes' 5-2 loss to the New Jersey Devils. Sekera was missed, both defensively and on the power play. He also has been productive offensively, with three goals and two assists in his last five games before Friday.

Defenseman Andrej Sekera has an upper-body injury and will not play Friday against the New Jersey Devils, Canes coach Kirk Muller said.

Muller said Sekera, who skated early Friday morning, is undergoing an MRI and his status is "day to day." He was not sure if Sekera, who has three goals and two assists in the past four games, would be able to play Sunday against the Vancouver Canucks. With defenseman Tim Gleason out with a lower-body injury, Mike Komisarek will play his seventh game of the season.
