Casey DeSmith News

The Stars have been stout defensively early in the 2026-27 season, allowing only 11 goals in six games. Unfortunately for their goaltending tandem of Jake Oettinger and Casey DeSmith, the team's offence has been nearly nonexistent, scoring just 13 goals and paving the way for a subpar 2-3-1 record. DeSmith will return to the crease for only the second time this season. The 35-year-old goalie was solid in his only outing, saving 24 of 26 shots (.923 SV%), but again lacked goal support, as the Stars lost 2-1 to the Nashville Predators. The Stars enter Wednesday's contest as +119 road underdogs against an Avalanche team that beat them 3-2 yesterday.

With their postseason placement already decided and a first-round matchup against the Minnesota Wild pending, Dallas will rest Jake Oettinger and turn to Casey DeSmith on Monday against the Toronto Maple Leafs. The 34-year-old DeSmith has been excellent in a supporting role this season and was solid in his previous outing, saving 20 of 21 shots (.952 SV%) in a 2-0 loss to the Colorado Avalanche. He has an outstanding 1.93 GAA and .930 SV% in his last four games, but has no wins to show for it (0-3-1). The Stars enter Monday's contest as -182 road favourites against a Maple Leafs team that has been outscored 26-12 during a five-game losing skid (0-4-1).

With Jake Oettinger returning from the Olympics, the Stars will turn to DeSmith in their first game back on Wednesday against the Seattle Kraken. The 34-year-old DeSmith has a solid 2.37 GAA and .911 SV% in 21 games this season (11-4-5), but has been less effective in recent weeks, posting a 2.71 GAA and .893 SV% in his last nine outings (3-4-2).

DeSmith played well in his most recent game, saving 22 of 24 shots (.917 SV%), but suffered a 3-1 loss to the Anaheim Ducks. The Stars are coming off a 3-1 win over the Los Angeles Kings last night and will turn to DeSmith on Tuesday in the tail end of their back-to-back against the Anaheim Ducks. After an impressive 9-0-3 run, posting a 2.03 GAA and .929 SV%, DeSmith has lost four of five (1-2-2), posting a pedestrian 3.01 GAA and .884 SV%. That said, he was victorious against the Ducks last month, saving 22 of 25 (.880 SV%) in an 8-3 win. The Stars enter Tuesday's contest as -116 road favorites.

The Stars are desperate to snap a six-game losing skid (0-3-3) and will turn to DeSmith on Wednesday against the Washington Capitals. The 34-year-old DeSmith entered yesterday's 6-3 loss to the Carolina Hurricanes in relief of Jake Oettinger and saved 16 of 17 shots (.941 SV%). DeSmith has been solid in a supporting role this season, posting a 2.41 GAA and .913 SV% in 16 games (9-2-4), but his play has dipped recently, mirroring the Stars' struggles, with a 3.74 GAA and .864 SV% in his last three starts (1-1-1). The Stars enter Wednesday's contest as +106 road underdogs against a Capitals team coming off a 7-4 win against the Anaheim Ducks.

DeSmith will rejoin the Stars after being away for two days to tend to personal matters. The 34-year-old goalie has had a solid season, posting a 2.44 GAA and .912 SV% in 15 games (9-2-4), but has struggled a bit lately, posting a sub-.900 SV% in three straight games (1-1-1).
