Ruhwedel, 24, is expected to make his season debut tonight vs. the Capitals. Ruhwedel has registered 31 points (8G / 23A) in 59 games with Rochester this season. He has just one assist in 28 career NHL games.
Ruhwedel was injured after being hit high by Flyers' forward Zac Rinaldo on Sunday. Rinaldo will likely be suspended as a result of the illegal hit to the head.
Ruhwedel was a plus-3 with 15 shots in seven games during his most recent call-up. He will play with Rochester during the Olympic break.
Ruhwedel didn't look out of place in seven NHL games when he was signed late last season right out of the Mass-Lowell blueline following the Frozen Four. And he's been solid this year in Rochester, leading Amerks blueliners with 17 points in 34 games.
Ruhwedel is a 23-year-old defenseman who is in his first season with Rochester. He has recorded four goals and 10 assists with a plus-2 rating in 26 games. He appeared in seven games with the Sabres last season but failed to register a point.
Ruhwedel was signed to an entry level deal earlier today and will quickly join the Sabres. However, Coach Rolston did not confirm who his D partner will be.
