Corey Crawford News

Crawford allowed three goals on 30 shots in the Blackhawks loss to the Coyotes on Thursday. Crawford looked sharp in his first start since December 2017. The best news was that Crawford is feeling well enough to remain in the crease tonight in Columbus. The Blue Jackets enter play averaging the ninth most goals for per game (3.67) in the NHL.

Crawford will be making his first start since December 23rd, 2017. He has been out for for nearly 10 months with vertigo-like symptoms, but returns with a quality matchup tonight vs. the Coyotes. Arizona ranks fourth in the NHL in shots per game (35.6) but dead last in goals per game (0.60) through their first seven games of the season.

Crawford returned to practice on Monday and head coach Joel Quenneville said that Crawford has been medically cleared to play and now he just “has to get ready to play.” It remains to be seen when Crawford will play, but this is an excellent development.

Crawford took to the ice with his teammates for the first time since February 12th, when he started feeling the vertigo-like symptoms. This is a big step forward for the Blackhawks’ netminder, who has been one of the most consistent netminders in the NHL over the last six years—he has posted a 2.31 GAA and .922 SV% over that stretch. Crawford likely won’t be ready for the start of the season, leaving the starting duties to Cam Ward, but Crawford appears on track to be back at some point in October.

Joel Quenneville said while it remains too early to determine a timetable for Crawford's return, there has been no discussion of shutting him down for the season.

At one point it looks like Crawford’s season could be over, but now he’s obviously getting close to a return to the crease. This is great news for the Blackhawks, who are still trying to battle back into the playoff race. Crawford will not play in Arizona or Vegas, but as long as every thing goes well, he should get a start soon.

Blackhawks coach Joel Quenneville said recently that they expect Crawford to be back this season, but that may not be the case. Crawford is officially on IR and “out indefinitely” without a timetable for his return. Apparently there is increasing concern that Crawford could be out for the rest of the 2017-18 season because he is dealing with “vertigo-like symptoms” for the second time in his career.

Crawford was placed on IR yesterday and will be out until at least January 3rd, meaning he will miss the next three games minimum. There’s a good chance that Anton Forsberg will start three games in four days but there’s no word whether Crawford will be out through January 3rd.

Crawford was pulled in his last start before the Christmas break, but he allowed three goals on seven shots, so there was no indication of an injury. The Blackhawks will likely make an announcement regarding the nature of Crawford’s injury, but all we know is that he will miss at least seven days and Jeff Glass has been recalled to serve as Anton Forsberg’s backup.

Crawford allowed four goals on 22 shots in the Blackhawks loss in Dallas on Thursday. The win snapped an impressive five-game winning streak for Crawford, who comes into Saturday’s game sitting second in the NHL in SV% (.932) and GAA (2.20) while rankings 10th in wins (16).

Crawford stopped 27 of 28 shots in the Blackhawks win over the Wild on Sunday. Crawford is riding a five-game winning streak, posting a 1.37 GAA and .954 SV% in the process. Crawford will make his sixth straight start against a Stars team that has lost six of their last eight games (2-4-2).
