Mermis has recorded five points (1G / 4A) in nine games with the Roadrunners this season. Alex Goligoski and Jason Demers were not on the ice for Coyotes’ practice on Tuesday, which could have something to do with Mermis being called-up.
Mermis spent most of the 2018 season in the AHL, where he had two goals and 17 assists (19 points) in 59 games with Tucson. He had a nine-game stint with the Coyotes and will fight for a spot as their No.6/7 defenseman in training camp.
Mermis, 24, has two goals and 17 assists (19 points) in 57 games with the Roadrunners this season. He returns to the NHL, where he failed to record a point in seven games with the Coyotes earlier this season.
With Niklas Hjalmarsson hurt and Adam Clendening on waivers, Mermis comes up to make his NHL debut tonight vs. the Sabres. Mermis has registered one goal and two assists in seven games with Tucson (AHL) so far this season.
