The Flames do not play again until after the All-Star break, so they sent a trio of young players, including Gilbert, back to the AHL.
Dennis Gilbert News
Gilbert has not played since Dec. 18th due to an undisclosed injury but has been activated off the injured reserve Wednesday. The 26-year-old has one assist and 20 PIMs with five SOG through eight games this season prior to the injury.
Gilbert left the Flames' previous contest Sunday after just 3:51 TOI after a spirited fight led to him leaving the game due to an undisclosed injury. It is a tough bounce for the 26-year-old, who was playing in his first game since Nov. 25th and only has one assist and five SOG through eight games this season.
This will be Gilbert's second spell with the Flames after getting a short two-game showing earlier in the year where he picked up zero points and five PIMs. Through eight games with the Wranglers (AHL) he had yet to pick up a point but was a -2 plus/minus prior to his promotion.
Gilbert was hurt in a fight with Keegan Kolesar last Tuesday and will miss at least one month after undergoing surgery. Gilbert was moved to injured reserve.
Gilbert played 9:54 TOI in his season debut on Tuesday. Gilbert played because Ian Cole was traded for Greg Pateryn a few hours before the game. With Pateryn available on Thursday, Gilbert will be scratched.
Gilbert comes up after Lucas Carlsson took a puck to the head on Thursday night. Gilbert has split his 2020 campaign between the AHL and NHL, collecting three points (1G / 2A) in his 20 games with the Blackhawks.
Gilbert has played in 17 straight games but will be replaced by Slater Koekkoek in the lineup on Thursday. Gilbert has one goal and two assists in 20 games this season.
Gilbert could dress as a seventh defenseman if Dylan Strome (concussion) can't play on Thursday but could be the extra defenseman during their two-game road-trip if Strome is good-to-go in Boston. The 23-year-old has no points in three NHL games this season and just two assists in 11 AHL games this season.
Gilbert was in the lineup for the last two games but head coach Jeremy Colliton will re-insert Brent Seabook into Saturday's game. Gilbert has been held off of the scoresheet in all three games that he's appeared in this season.
This is Gilbert's second call-up of the season and this time he could stick around for a while. Connor Murphy was moved to LTIR on Wednesday, so Gilbert could become a main-stay in the Blackhawks lineup moving forward. He will have to battle Slater Koekkoek for that right and comes up with no points in three AHL games.
Gilbert was with the Blackhawks in Prague so the “recall” was just a formality. Gilbert was a third-round pick in 2015 and will play in his second career NHL game because Calvin de Haan and Connor Murphy are injured to begin the season. The 22-year-old blueliner had 14 points (5G / 9A) in 63 games in his first AHL season (2018-19).
Gilbert was a third-round pick in 2015 and has 14 points (5G / 9A) in 59 games during his first pro season with Rockford. Gilbert could make his NHL debut as the season winds down.
