Dustin Penner News

Well, that’s the trainers’ call, I guess, on that one. He’s getting better. He’s going to get better every day. There’s swelling, and that needs to get taken care of, and then they will see where he’s at after the swelling goes down. With the I.R., he’s seven days for sure, and then we’ll just make a decision after that.

Penner will remain on the IR until tomorrow (11/17). Based of Murray's comments it appears that the team will let him rest until fully healthy. The Winkler, Manitoba native has struggled so far with only two assists through 14 games.

LOS ANGELES – The Los Angeles Kings have placed forward Dustin Penner on the injured reserve list (retroactive to November 10) due to a hand injury, Kings President/General Manager Dean Lombardi announced today.

Sounds like Penner will miss at least a week with his current injury although he is eligible to come off IR in four days. The power forward has only registered two assists through 14 games this season.

Terry Murray said he hadn’t yet decided whether to use today’s practice line combinations in tomorrow’s game, but indicated that it would be a way to try to increase Dustin Penner’s offensive production.

Penner practiced today with Mike Richards and Dustin Brown -- an upgrade over his current linemates.

Dustin Penner made it through today’s morning skate without issue and is expected to play tonight against St. Louis. Penner indicated that there are inflammation issues with his knee but that a doctor’s evaluation revealed nothing more serious.

Look for him to line up with Dustin Brown and Mike Richards. Due to the injury, the power forward was held out of PP duties last game. That trend could continue tonight against the Blues.

Dustin Penner left the ice after 20 minutes of practice. Update to come on that after the skate, hopefully. A trainer brought out a gray jersey for Scott Parse, who will apparently take Penner’s place in drills.

Penner must have suffered a setback during practice. In his second game back he felt healthy enough to fight Zac Rinaldo which was a welcome sign for fantasy hockey owners. If he can't play, look for Scott Parse to draw back into the lineup.

After missing the first two regular-season games with a still-undisclosed “lower-body injury,’’ Dustin Penner is ready to make his season debut tomorrow at New Jersey. Penner made it through a second consecutive full practice, on a line with Mike Richards and Dustin Brown, and that’s where he’s expected to play against the Devils, Terry Murray said.

If you own Penner, feel free to start him with impunity. Last season the power forward scored 23 goals and 45 points in a down season. He could very well return to the 30-goal range should he develop chemistry with his linemates.

As noted yesterday, Dustin Penner’s status remains a day-to-day topic — Penner is expected to attempt to practice again today — but regardless of whether Penner is able to play this weekend, it seems that the Kings will stay with a first line of center Anze Kopitar and wingers Simon Gagne and Justin Williams.

When Penner does return, look for him to wing Mike Richards and Dustin Brown on the second line. His fantasy hockey value is directly correlated to his playing time and location in the lineup so continue to monitor this situation.

Dustin Penner, who missed the first two games with a lower-body injury, skated and did drills for approximately 40 minutes, then left the ice for treatment. Afterward, Terry Murray said that was the plan for Penner going in, and that Penner is feeling better. It’s not yet known whether Penner will be able to play Thursday in New Jersey.

Penner failed to skate with his normal linemates, indicating he is not fully healthy. Stay tuned for a further update on this wounded winger.

Dustin Penner is “80 percent,” according to Terry Murray, but won’t play tomorrow. Penner skated for 40 minutes today and remains day-to-day.

Penner skating is an encouraging sign but not lining up with his linemates indicates he will need some extra rest. Last season the power forward scored 23 goals and 45 points in a down season. With a full, healthy year in Los Angeles, he could return to the 60-point range.

Dustin Penner is skating this afternoon, but on the “extras” line with Colin Fraser and Kevin Westgarth.

After the game, Terry Murray said Dustin Penner is suffering from the dreaded “lower-body injury,” and Murray said Penner’s availability for Friday’s season opener is in question. The Kings are not scheduled to practice Wednesday, so the Kings will re-evaluate Penner on Thursday.

No further word on the extent of Penner's injury. Last season the power forward scored 23 goals and 45 points in a down season. With a full, healthy year in Los Angeles, he could return to the 60-point range.
