Malkin is on the ice for Penguins morning skate.

Malkin was given a maintenance day on Tuesday, but was fully expected to suit up tonight. It appears that he will dress and skate with James Neal and Pascal Dupuis vs. Washington. Malkin has only three goals this season but his 17 assists is fourth in the NHL. He has 10 assists in his last eight games.

The Pittsburgh Penguins announced today that they've agreed to an eight-year, $76-million US contract extension for 2011-12 NHL Most Valuable Player Evgeni Malkin, who was due to hit the free-agent market next summer.

Malkin will earn $9.5 million US for each season through to the deal's 2021-22 expiration, the club announced. He turns 27 in July, will earn $7.5 million next season under his old deal, with a cap hit of $8.7 million. For his career, he's scored 217 goals and 343 assists for 560 points in 458 games. No stranger to the penalty box, he's compiled 462 penalty minutes.

Malkin returns to the lineup tonight vs BUF #Pens

Malkin will return to the Pens lineup after missing their last five games with a shoulder injury. He is an elite player so obviously you should get him into your lineup. He has missed a lot of time this year with injuries which has limited his production but he still has eight goals and 21 assists in 28 games.

#Pens Malkin will play tonight vs. #NHLJets

Malkin has missed the Penguins last nine games with a shoulder injury. He will return to the lineup and assume his spot on the Pens second line alongside James Neal and Brenden Morrow. The Pens also acquired Jarome Iginla last night and he is expected to play with Malkin and Neal, that sounds like a scary line. Get Malkin in your lineups.

Malkin will NOT play vs #Isles tonight. Still day-to-day per coach Bylsma #Pens

There was speculation earlier in the week that Malkin would be back tonight. He practiced this morning but just filled in for Matt Cooke and did not participate in power-play drills. The Penguins next game is on Sunday. Monitor Malkin's status prior to Sunday's contest.

Malkin still isn’t sure if he can play Friday.

Malkin described himself Wednesday as “not 100 percent” and attempted to lower expectations for a return Friday at the New York Islanders. Malkin has missed the last six games. He has played in only three of the Penguins' previous 13 games. They are 11-2-0 over that stretch but only 7 for 31 (22.6 percent) on the power play without Malkin in the lineup. Malkin is considered day to day, coach Dan Bylsma said.

Pittsburgh, they will be without the services of Evgeni Malkin again tonight. Malkin continues to recover from an upper-body injury he suffered against the Maple Leafs on Saturday.

It is easy for the Penguins to play without Malkin when they have Sidney Crosby and Christ Kunitz playing at the level they are right now. Crosby had five assists, while Kunitz recorded his second hat trick of the season in addition to setting up two other goals in a 6-1 win. Malkin will miss the next 1-2 weeks with the upper-body injury.

Upper body injury on Malkin. Not a head injury. He was kept out for precautionary reasons.

Malkin was hurt on a hard hit by James van Riemsdyk and may miss tonight's game vs. the Islanders. There is no official word on Malkin's status so check back prior to game time to see if he will be in the lineup or not.
