Lundqvist will start the Rangers season opener vs. the Avalanche.

Lundqvist has won at least 30 games in each of his 11 (full) NHL seasons but he struggled to a 2.74 GAA and .910 SV% last season—his worst season to date. Entering 2017-18, Lundqvist will have less competition for starts with Antti Raanta in Arizona and Ondrej Pavelec as his backup. Regardless, the aging veteran doesn’t look like a top-5 fantasy netminder anymore but he is a solid low-end No.1 option with an excellent matchup tonight.

Lundqvist (hip) will play this weekend.

The Rangers said that Lundqvist could play tonight if he had to, but they will give him a couple more days to heal. Lundqvist will start either Saturday or Sunday, but head coach Alain Vigneault didn’t know which one yet. Barring something unforeseen, Lundqvist will start two of three games on the California road trip.

Lundqvist returned to practice on Monday, his first practice since straining a hip muscle on March 7th. “Expect [Lundqvist] at some point” during the Rangers’ California road trip head coach Alain Vigneault said after practice. Look for Antti Raanta to start the Rangers’ next two games, but for Lundqvist to be ready for the weekend.

Lundqvist will miss 2-3 weeks with a lower-body injury.

Lundqvist was scratched from Thursday’s game with what was considered a minor injury, but the Rangers announced on Saturday morning that Lundqvist will miss at least two weeks. With Lundqvist out, Antti Raanta takes over as the No.1 and Magnus Hellberg has been recalled to be his backup.
