Scott Wedgewood has taken the reigns in the Stars' crease during Oettinger's eight-game absence, helping the team go 5-2-1 in that stretch. With Oettinger's status being upgraded from week-to-week to day-to-day, his return is on the horizon, and he should return to seeing the bulk of action between the pipes for the Stars.

The Stars coaching staff indicated that the team received positive results on Oettinger's evaluation, avoiding the worst outcome, but will still be without their starting goaltender on a week-to-week basis. Oettinger struggled before his injury, posting a 1-3-0 record and an ugly .823 SV% in his last five games. The Stars recalled Matt Murray from the Texas Stars (AHL), who will predominantly serve as the backup to Scott Wedgewood while Oettinger is out of the lineup.

Oettinger played only eight minutes before being lifted due to the injury. Scott Wedgewood will tend the twine for the Stars in his absence. We can expect to receive some sort of update from the Stars' on Oettinger's status following the completion of Friday's game.

Oettinger has allowed three or more goals in his last four games (1-3-0) and will start for the third consecutive game on Friday. After a sensational start to the season, posting a .938 SV% in his first seven games (5-1-1), Oettinger has seen a rapid decline in his play, posting an ugly .884 SV% in his 13 games since (6-1-1). Despite his struggles, the Stars have remained near the top of the Central Division standings and are -197 home favourites against an Ottawa Senators team that played last night and lost 4-2 in St. Louis.

Oettinger will start on Monday against the Detroit Red Wings after allowing six goals on 27 shots (.778 SV%) in Saturday's 6-1 loss to the Vegas Golden Knights. After a tremendous start, Oettinger's season totals have fallen rapidly, posting a 2.84 GAA and .905 SV%, triggered by three consecutive losses where he has allowed four or more goals in each game, sporting an ugly .815 SV%. The Stars have been outscored 19-10 over their last four games (1-3-0) but are still sizeable -209 home favourites against a Red Wings team suffering a variety of injuries, most notably Dylan Larkin (upper-body) and J.T. Compher (soreness).

Oettinger will draw his third-straight start after dropping his previous game to Tampa Bay after allowing four goals on 23 shots (.826 SV%) but will look for redemption Wednesday vs. Florida. The 24-year-old goaltender has been one of the league's best yet again in 2023-24, with his 10-5-2 record, 2.53 GAA and .915 SV%. He will take on the Panthers on the road Wednesday, who have lost four of their six games and are second in the NHL in shots per game (34.1).

Oettinger's play has been somewhat up and down lately but has saved 59 of 60 shots (.983 SV%) over his last two games (2-0-0) and will return to the crease on the road, where he has been tremendous all season. On home ice this season, Oettinger has a lacklustre 3.00 GAA and .894 SV% in eight games (4-3-1), night and day, compared to his sensational 1.87 GAA and .942 SV% in eight road games (6-1-1). Oettinger and the Stars are -116 road favourites against a Tampa Bay Lightning team that has lost four straight, including an 8-1 loss to the Stars on Saturday.

Oettinger will start for the third consecutive game on Tuesday and look to rebound from a terrible performance in his most recent contest. On Friday, Oettinger allowed six goals on 26 shots (.769 SV%) en route to a 7-4 loss to the Calgary Flames and has fallen off significantly after a tremendous start to the season. After posting a .933 SV% in his first nine games (6-2-1), Oettinger has only managed a .865 SV% in his five games since (2-2-1). That said, Oettinger has been significantly stronger on the road this season, posting a .935 SV% in seven road games (5-1-1). The Stars are -118 road favourites against a Winnipeg Jets team coming off their first loss in six games (5-1-0).

Oettinger will return to the crease after saving 24 of 26 shots (.923 SV%) in a 2-1 overtime loss to the Vegas Golden Knights on Wednesday. The Stars are -174 home favourites on Friday when they welcome the Calgary Flames, whom they defeated 4-3 on November 1st when Oettinger saved 44 of 47 shots (.936 SV%) in a 4-3 victory. That said, Oettinger has been significantly worse on home ice this season, posting a 2.82 GAA and .898 SV%, compared to the stellar 2.14 GAA and .935 SV% he sports on the road.

Oettinger will return to the crease after serving as the backup to Scott Wedgewood on Monday in the Stars' 6-3 victory over the New York Rangers. The Stars have been keen on managing Oettinger's workload this season as the 24-year-old netminder was due for a rest after playing three consecutive games (2-1-0), posting an out-of-character .876 SV%. The last time Oettinger had four or more days of rest between games, he saved 38 of 39 shots (.974 SV%). In his only matchup against the Vegas Golden Knights this season, also after four days of rest, he saved 32 of 34 shots (.941 SV%) in a 3-2 shootout loss.

Oettinger will go for his fourth-straight win Saturday after winning his last game vs. Arizona where he stopped 23 of 26 shots (.885 SV%). The 24-year-old has been one of the NHL's best goaltenders yet again in 2023-24, with his impressive 8-2-1 record, .926 SV%, and 2.26 GAA. He gets to take on the Colorado Avalanche, who have won two-straight and are fifth in the NHL in goals per game (3.67).

After losing back-to-back games for the first time this season, Oettinger has rebounded nicely, saving 50 of 55 shots (.909 SV%) in his two games since (2-0-0). Oettinger will look to extend his winning streak on Tuesday as the Stars' starter against the Arizona Coyotes. The Central-Division-leading Stars are sizeable -235 home favourites against a Coyotes team that has impressed with an 8-6-0 record while ranking in the top half of the league offensively (3.36 GF / GP) and defensively (3.00 GA / GP).

Oettinger will return to the Stars' crease on Sunday after Scott Wedgewood got the nod for the front-end of Dallas' back-to-back last night in Winnipeg. Oettinger has so far delivered on his loft fantasy expectations this season, registering a .6-2-1 record to go along with a .933 SV% and a 2.10 GAA. He most recently stopped 27 of the 29 shots he faced in a 5-2 victory over the Blue Jackets on Thursday. Oettinger and the Stars (-110) draw a relatively tough matchup on the road on Sunday in Minnesota.
