James Reimer News

Reimer will make his Hurricanes debut in Washington.

After three seasons with the Panthers, Reimer was traded to the Hurricanes this summer and will likely split time with Petr Mrazek. Reimer was 13-12-15 with a 3.09 GAA and .900 SV% last year, so it’s difficult to trust him on most nights. A road meeting with Alex Ovechkin and the Capitals is a good spot to leave Reimer on the bench or free agency.

The Hurricanes have acquired James Reimer from the Panthers for Scott Darling and a 2020 sixth-round pick.

Reimer has two years remaining on his contract that carries a $3.4M cap-hit and the Panthers were trying hard to move it ahead of free agency. Reimer, who went 13-12-5 with a 3.09 GAA and .900 SV% last year, will likely serve as Carolina’s No.2 option between the pipes in 2020.

Reimer will start Thursday vs. the Flames.

Reimer was pulled after allowing three goals on 12 shots in the Panthers loss to the Lightning on Sunday. Since the calendar flipped to 2019, Reimer has gone 2-3-2 with a 2.93 GAA and .905 SV%, which is slightly better than his overall numbers on the season. Still, he hasn’t been very good this season and tonight’s matchup with the Flames is not a friendly one.

Reimer allowed one goal on 35 shots in the Panthers win over the Golden Knights on Saturday. Reimer has won two straight games while stopping 71 of 74 shots (.950 SV%) so the Panthers will stick with the hot hand tonight vs. the Blues. The 3-year-old has gone 5-4-3 with a 2.99 GAA and .910 SV% at the BB&T Center this season.
