Reimer allowed three goals on 29 shots in the Hurricanes win over the Stars on Sunday. With Petr Mrazek out for an extended period of time, the Hurricanes will rely heavily on Reimer moving forward. He has stopped 67 of 73 shots (.918 SV%) in hie first three appearances of 2021.
Reimer served as Petr Mrazek’s backup for the first two games of the season but will start Monday in Nashville. Reimer was solid in that role in 2020, going 14-6-2 with a 2.66 GAA, .914 SV% and three shutouts. That included a really strong 10-4-0, 2.71 GAA, .914 SV% and two shutouts on the road.
Petr Mrazek started and won the first two games of the series but with Game 3 coming on the tail-end of a back-to-back, Reimer will start tonight. He started 24 games in the regular season, going 14-6-2 with a 2.66 GAA and .914 SV%. He has made seven career playoff starts, but the last one was in 2013. He was 3-4 with a 2.87 GAA and .923 SV% in that series.
Reimer left Saturday's game with a lower-body injury and did not return. He was replaced by Petr Mrazek, who also got hurt. That left the Hurricanes to turn to 42-year-old Zamboni driver David Ayres for the final period and a half. Head coach Rod Brind'Amour told reporters postgame that Reimer will be out a while, so look for Alex Nedeljkovic to be recalled from Charlotte (AHL).
