Jaroslav Halak News

Halak played reasonably well in a 4-2 loss Sunday at Edmonton. The Blues are right back at it tonight when they play at Minnesota. If you were going to break those back-to-back nights up, it certainly made sense to go with Elliott against Vancouver on Friday.

Through three career games against the Wild, Halak holds a 0-1-2 record with a 3.42 GAA and .880 SV%.

Still, there is some concern about how the Blues' No. 1 netminder will respond in his second season with the club after a preseason performance that won't show up on any of his personal highlight reels. He was 1-2 with a 2.68 GAA and .869 save-percentage.

Halak starts the season as the undisputed starting goalie. Last season he posted decent stats as a member of the Blues finishing with a 27-21-7 record with a 2.48 GAA and .910 SV%. Look for him to improve on those totals in his second full season in St. Louis.

Preparing for a more consistent campaign in 2011-12, Halak has addressed concerns the Blues had about his fitness with a productive summer of training that included drenching bike rides through the hills of his native Bratislava, Slovokia. But whether he's better equipped to handle the ups and downs of an 82-game season, not even he knows that answer.

Last season Halak struggled with his consistency, eventually even getting sidelined. Through a career-high 57 games played, the Slovakian netminder posted a respectable 2.48 GAA but saw his SV% drop from .924 to .910. Expect a more consistent performance in year two.
