Jimmy Howard News

Howard was in the starter's crease on Friday; expected to start Saturday in Ottawa.

Howard turned aside 37 of 39 shots in the Red Wings’ win over the Wild on Thursday. It was an excellent start to the season for Howard, who has a 1.11 GAA and .967 SV% in his last five October starts (dating back to last season). Tonight he will take on a Senators team that lost to the Capitals in a shootout in their season opener.

Howard will start the Red Wings season opener vs. Minnesota.

Prior to getting hurt last year, Howard was fourth in the NHL in SV% (.934) and sixth in GAA (1.96) but then he missed nearly two and a half months with a knee injury. Howard was on-pace for the best season of his career, but shouldn’t be expected to replicate those numbers this season. Howard has a career 2.43 GAA and .915 SV%, which is O.K. but he’s playing behind one of the worst bluelines in the NHL, making him a risky option tonight vs. Minnesota—who ranked second in the NHL in scoring last year.

Howard will start Wednesday in Colorado.

Howard allowed two goals on 26 shots in the Red Wings’ win vs. the Blackhawks last Friday. It was a strong return to the crease for Howard, who has had a really strong, but injury filed season. Tonight he is a must-start in Colorado against the NHL’s worst team. Howie has gone 3-2-0 with a 2.21 GAA and .926 SV% on the road.

Howard will start Friday vs. the Blackhawks.

Howard will start his first NHL games since December 20th after a two-game conditioning stint with the Grand Rapids Griffins (AHL). He won both of his AHL starts, including a 21-save shutout on Tuesday. He had a really nice season going before he got hurt and he will look to pick up where he left off three months ago. Howard is 5-7-1 with a 1.96 GAA and .934 SV%.

The Red Wings have recalled Jimmy Howard from Grand Rapids (AHL).

Howard’s conditioning stint stopping 31 of 33 shots in a 5-2 win over Texas on Saturday and posted a 21-save shutout against San Antonio on Tuesday. Howard’s conditioning stint was a success and he should start Friday vs. Chicago or Sunday vs. the Rangers.

Howard (knee) will go to Grand Rapids (AHL) for a two-game conditioning stint.

Howard previously went down for a conditioning stint in early-February and suffered a setback. Nearly a month later, Howard is set to start for Grand Rapids this Saturday and next Tuesday and barring another setback will return to the Red Wings shortly after.

Howard (knee) suffered another setback; expected to play with Grand Rapids (AHL) during Red Wings’ bye week.

Howard suffered a setback during his second conditioning start with the Griffins and then another setback on Tuesday. Howard has been sidelined since December 20th and with the Red Wings’ season all but over, there’s no point in them rushing Howard back if his knee isn’t right. The Red Wings’ bye week starts after next Tuesday’s game vs. the Islanders.

Howard (knee) suffered a minor setback; listed as day-to-day.

Howard left his second rehab start after suffering a minor setback to his knee injury. General Manager Ken Holland said it was irritation of scar tissue and will be recalled by Detroit shortly, so his conditioning assignment with Grand Rapids (AHL) is over.

Howard (knee) is expected to make a conditioning start with Grand Rapids (AHL) on Saturday.

Howard has been sidelined by a sprained MCL since December 20th, but he is nearing a return to the Red Wings’ crease. Howard is scheduled to start Saturday’s game with the Griffins and if all goes well look for him to return to the Red Wings next week.

The Red Wings have placed Jimmy Howard (knee) on LTIR.

Howard has been sidelined since December 20th and was originally expected to miss 4-6 weeks. His move to LTIR provides the Red Wings with some cap relief, but he’s already missed the required 10 games and 24 days, so he is eligible to be activated whenever he is healthy.
