Howard is out indefinitely with a groin injury.

Howard had to be stretchered off of the ice after suffering a groin injury less than two minutes into Saturday’s loss to the Capitals. He will head back to Detroit to undergo tests to determine the severity of his injury. Petr Mrazek will serve as the Red Wings’ starter and another goalie will have to be recalled to back him up with Jonas Gustavsson still out with a shoulder injury.

Howard allowed two goals on 23 shots in the Red Wings win in Edmonton on Tuesday. He was given Wednesday night off, but he will be back between the pipes tonight in Washington. He has won three of five with a 2.19 GAA and .919 SV%.

Howard surrendered two goals on 22 shots in the Red Wings’ 4-1 loss to the Canucks on Saturday. It was tight game throughout, but two empty netters made it look closer than it was. He has alternated wins and losses in his last five and that is likely to continue as he gets the nod vs. the Oilers.

Howard stopped 12 of 13 shots in the Red Wings win over the Devils on Wednesday. It was about as easy of a night as you could have, but Howard will take it as he notched his 15th win of the season. Despite posting a GAA under 2.00 (1.98) in December, a lack of offence led to a 4-2-3 record for Howie.

Howard stopped 40 of 44 shots in the Red Wings lost to the Bruins on Monday. Howard has just one win in his last six starts despite posting a 2.15 GAA and .938 SV%. He should make for a great start tonight with the low-scoring Devils in town.

Howard stopped 31 of 33 shots in the Red Wings overtime win over the Senators on Saturday. It was a great outing for Howard who had gone 0-3-1 in his previous four games. Tonight he will face a shorthanded Bruins squad for the third time this season—he is 1-0-1 with a 1.44 GAA and .946 SV% in the first two meetings.

Howard stopped eight of nine shots before departing last Friday’s game with a groin injury. Despite posting a 1.12 GAA and .952 SV% in his last four games, he lost all four of those games. Tonight, he will face the Senators—he is 1-1-0 with 2.51 GAA and .912 SV% against Ottawa this year.

Howard skated on Monday, but left practice a bit early, which suggests that he won’t be ready for Tuesday’s game vs. the Sabres. With the easy matchup and three days off after, it would seem to make sense to give Petr Mrazek another start and give Howard a few more days to get to 100 percent.

Thomas McCollum has been recalled to serve as Mrazek’s backup. Howie’s injury does not sound serious, so expect him back by the end of the Holliday break at the latest.

Despite losing three in a row, Howard has been great as of late. He has posted a 2-1-3 record with a 1.78 GAA and .930 SV% in December.

Howard stopped 24 of 26 shots in the Red Wings shootout loss to the Panthers on Friday. Despite allowing just three goals in his last two start, he has lost each of them in a shootout. Howard is 13-5-6 with a 2.14 GAA and .918 SV% on the year. Tonight he will make his second start vs. the Blue Jackets; he posted a 28-save shutout in the first meeting.

Howard turned aside 18 of 19 shots in the Red Wings 2-1 shootout loss to the Maple Leafs on Wednesday. Detroit outshot Toronto 42-19, but James Reimer was equal to the task. Howie starting tonight likely leaves Petr Mrazek to take on the Leafs in T.O tomorrow night.

Howard allowed two goals on 29 shots in the Red Wings 3-2 win over the Rangers on Saturday. He was given Sunday off, but will be back between the pipes tonight at home vs. the Maple Leafs. Detroit did not play great the last time they faced Toronto, but Howie has played very well—going 1-1-0 with a 2.01 GAA and. 922 SV% in his two outings vs. the blue and white.

Howard stopped 22 of 24 shots in the Red Wings 5-2 win over the Stars on Thursday. It was a nice bounce-back performance for Howie, who has won four of his last five. He is 12-5-4 and hold the 12th best GAA (2.22) with a .916 SV%. He will take on the Rangers at home tonight—Howard is 9-3-2 at the Joe this year.

Howard gave up four goals on 31 shots in the Red Wings 4-3 loss to the Panthers on Tuesday. Detroit came out flat and did not give Howie much help all night. The loss snapped a three-game losing streak for Howard who takes on a Dallas lineup that looks good on paper, but have lost three straight and sit at 9-11-5.

Howard stopped 30 of 33 shots that the Canucks threw at him in Sunday’s 5-3 win. Howie has won three in a row with a 2.67 GAA and .904 SV%. Tonight he draws a strong matchup against a Panthers team who are 9-7-6 while ranking 28th in scoring with 2.04 goals per game.
